    Marid Introduction

In the swirling depths of the Elemental Plane of Water, where the ocean's embrace is both a cradle and a grave, there exists a creature of immense power and majesty—the Marid. As you venture deeper into this realm, the water grows colder and the currents stronger, until you find yourself in the presence of this awe-inspiring being. The Marid, a noble genie of the sea, stands before you, its form both beautiful and terrifying, like a storm given life.

The Marid's appearance is a breathtaking sight to behold. Towering over most mortals, it possesses a physique that is both muscular and graceful, its skin shimmering with the iridescent hues of the ocean's depths. Its eyes, deep and knowing, reflect the endless mysteries of the sea, while its hair flows like liquid silver, cascading down its back in waves. Adorned in garments woven from the finest sea silk and encrusted with pearls and coral, the Marid exudes an aura of regal authority and ancient wisdom.

Known for their capricious nature, Marids are as unpredictable as the tides. They are creatures of whimsy and power, capable of great benevolence or terrible wrath. Their laughter can be as gentle as a babbling brook or as thunderous as a crashing wave. Marids delight in storytelling and are often found regaling tales of their exploits to those who earn their favor. However, they are also fiercely proud and do not take kindly to insults or challenges to their authority.

The Marid's domain is the vast and uncharted ocean, where they dwell in opulent palaces crafted from coral and pearl, hidden beneath the waves. These underwater fortresses are said to be filled with treasures beyond imagination, guarded by loyal sea creatures and enchanted currents. Legends speak of Marids who have aided sailors lost at sea, guiding them to safety, while others tell of those who have sunk entire fleets in a fit of rage.

Among the seafaring folk, tales of the Marid are passed down through generations. Some speak of a Marid who fell in love with a mortal, granting them a boon of eternal life beneath the waves. Others warn of the Marid's temper, recounting stories of entire islands swallowed by the sea at their command. To encounter a Marid is to stand at the edge of the unknown, where the line between myth and reality blurs, and the power of the ocean is made manifest.

    • Water Jet: The marid magically shoots water in a 60-foot line that is 5 feet wide. Each creature in that line must make a DC 19 Strength saving throw. On a failed save, a creature takes 17 (5d6) bludgeoning damage and, if it is Large or smaller, is pushed up to 20 feet away from the marid and knocked prone. On a successful save, a creature takes half as much damage and isn't pushed or knocked prone.

    Battle Tips for Marid

The Marid, a powerful water-based genie, can be a formidable opponent in any campaign. Known for their immense strength and control over water, they can challenge even the most seasoned adventurers. Here are some tips for Dungeon Masters on how to effectively use Marids in battle:

    Using Marid in Battle

    • Water Manipulation: Utilize the Marid's ability to control water to create dynamic and challenging environments. Flood the battlefield, create water barriers, or use water to push characters into disadvantageous positions.
    • Illusions and Trickery: Marids are known for their cunning. Use illusions to confuse and mislead players, making them question what is real and what is not.
    • Physical Strength: Don't forget the Marid's physical prowess. Engage in close combat to take advantage of their strength and resilience.

    Coordinating Multiple Marids

    • Elemental Synergy: If using multiple Marids, coordinate their water manipulation abilities to create overwhelming waves or whirlpools that can trap or disorient players.
    • Divide and Conquer: Use one Marid to isolate a group of players with water barriers while others focus on taking down isolated targets.
    • Communication and Strategy: Marids are intelligent creatures. Have them communicate and strategize during battle, adapting to the players' tactics.

    Retreat and Survival

    • Escape Routes: Marids can use their control over water to create escape routes, such as underwater tunnels or currents, allowing them to retreat if the battle turns against them.
    • Distraction Tactics: Use illusions or summoned water creatures to distract players while the Marid makes a strategic retreat.
    • Regrouping: If retreating, have the Marids regroup in a more advantageous location, perhaps underwater or in a water-filled cavern, where they can prepare for a counterattack.

By leveraging their unique abilities and intelligence, Marids can be a challenging and memorable encounter for any adventuring party.
